Florida Tarpon Charters fishes the backcountry waters of CharlotteHarbor with artificial baits out of an Airboat during the winter months on the lowest tides of the year. During the months of November thru February, the moon phases bring extremely low tides that only let an airboat or a wade fisherman access the back waters of Port Charlotte. At low tide, all of the flats are bone dry with hundreds of sandy holes and deeper depressions scattered throughout the backcountry allowing only airboats that can drive on land to access these remote fishing holes deep in the backcountry. The snook, redfish and trout that where on the flats on the higher water must drop off into these pools of water when the tide goes out. If you have heard the term "fishing out of a barrel" that is what happens when you have hundreds of fish trapped in a pool of water that is the size of a hockey ring. This is where the airboat comes in handy driving over dry land from hole to hole catching mostly redfish with an occasional snook and trout all on artificial baits. Throughout your charter you will be amazed at the fish trapped in the holes as you are riding along and the scenery such as miles of mangrove shorelines filled with various birds, wildlife like wild pigs eating crabs and shrimp out on the dry flats as you pray the captain knows his way back to the boat ramp. You will be fishing from a custom airboat rigged with a trolling motor and a power-pole (shallow water anchor), that is all deck and designed to fish up to three anglers comfortably. Airboat charters are $600.00 for 6 hours for up to 3 anglers, a little more costly compared to a backcountry charter. As you can imagine it takes horse power to drive a boat on dry ground and when you have a 502 cubic inch big block with that much power, along comes a hefty fuel bill not to mention the other cost of having an airboat.
