Florida Tarpon Charters offers several different ways of fishing for tarpon; beach fishing, harbor fishing, flats fishing, and the famous BocaGrandePass fishing with live or artificial baits. Whether you like fishing with artificials, live bait, fly fishing or just want the kids to catch a giant tarpon, Florida Tarpon Charters has you covered during the months of April, May, June, July and August catching giant tarpon with our highly experienced and tournament proven captains. For over decade artificial baits has been the preferred and easiest way to catch tarpon in Boca Grande Pass. Although the beaches, passes and the harbor produce good numbers of fish using live bait most anglers prefer to catch the king on soft plastic lures. A small tarpon this time of the year will be around the 120 pound mark and it is not uncommon to catch a tarpon up to 220 plus pounds. A client of Capt. Brian Hart landed a giant tarpon that would have been a world record if they would have killed the tarpon that was estimated over 300 pounds. Read about this at Record Tarpon at Boca Grande. Florida Tarpon Charters recommends fishing for tarpon in the BocaGrandePass during the week days. The Professional Tarpon Tournament Series is fished on Sundays for the most part making the weekends sometimes chaotic with recreational anglers and Tarpon Tournament anglers. There are weekends with over 100 boats in the BocaGrandePass trying to catch a tarpon. The weekdays have 15 to 30 boats in the BocaGrandePass, most are veteran fishing guides that work together. When it comes to hooking a tarpon, every tarpon guide in the pass will get out of your way making your chances of a landing a fish of a life time even greater than fishing the weekends where you have to contend with 100 plus boats. Fishing for tarpon in the early part of the season is done in CharlotteHarbor between April 15th and May 15th. Catching tarpon on the fly or bait fishing with spinning tackle is at its best! For the anglers that are not interested in the crowds and like to be alone one on one with giant tarpon, or fly fisherman, CharlotteHarbor has plenty of action with very little fishing pressure. Fly fisherman have a blast blind casting in the middle of Charlotte Harbor, while waiting on a live bait on a spinning rod in the rod holder to take off with a tarpon on it. There are days in the CharlotteHarbor where the fly fisherman hook more tarpon than a live bait will! Crab Flush A.K.A. "Hilltide In the months of May, June and July all of the passes on Florida's west coast from Tampa Bay to Naples have a crab flush. Tampa Bay and Boca Grande are the best places to fish due to the amount of water both estuaries have to dump all of the water out of the two bays. On your new and full moon there are strong tides that flush crabs out of the flats bringing them through the various passes. Boca Grande pass without a doubt is the best place to catch Tarpon on the "Hill Tide". Usually on a crab flush you start out chasing the Tarpon offshore 3 to 4 miles throwing Calico Crabs at them with 30lb spinning gear. You can hook 20-50 fish when these tarpon go off shore. Most of these fish will go out offshore and turn around and come back to the inside of the pass which is called the Hill. When they get on the hill instead of chasing them you just drift through them, it is allot like bass fishing with a shiner except it is a little bigger jerk on the end of your line.
